SOS Community Connections Community Engagement Training Series
Karen Knight will present at two separate webinar sessions:

March 11th from 10 am till Noon  5 Steps to Building a Stellar Volunteer Team
Are you a leader of volunteers who is frustrated because your volunteers
cancel shifts with little (or no!) notice, or work for a month or two, then
disappear?
Are you having trouble finding enough qualified volunteers to run your
programs?
Are you spending too much of your time trying to
recruit and manage volunteers?
In this interactive class, we will cover the five elements of an effective
volunteer program: recruiting, training, managing, program review and
appreciation.
This is a hands-on workshop where you will be taking a close look at your
own program and coming up with ways to make it better.
What you'll leave with:
 A clear understanding of the four ways to show volunteers
appreciation;
 Tips and tools to find and sign up enough of the right volunteers;
 Useful guidelines for onboarding and training in such a way as to
reduce or eliminate volunteer mistakes;
 Ideas to make the day-to-day management of your program run
smoothly; and
 Steps for keeping your volunteer program improving year after year.

March 18th 10 AM till 11Am  The Volunteer Lifecycle
Are you frustrated and worried when volunteers leave your program and
you don’t really know why?
Do you suspect that if you could manage volunteers more efficiently your
program would have a much greater impact?
If you work regularly with volunteers, you will have realized that they have
a definite lifecycle. By understanding it, and putting thought into how it’s
managed, you can dramatically increase the impact that volunteers can
have in your program.
In this interactive class, we will cover the specific stages in the volunteer
lifecycle; and what to do at each stage to strengthen your program and
increase your impact.

This is a hands-on workshop where you will be taking a close look at your
own program and how you work with volunteers.

What you'll leave with:
 A clear understanding of the stages of the volunteer lifecycle;
 Specific tools for dealing with each stage ;
 Tips on how to find and sign up enough of the right volunteers;
 Useful guidelines for onboarding and training volunteers to keep
them happy and contributing effectively;
 Ideas to make the day-to-day management of your program run
smoothly; and
 What to do (and not do!) when a volunteer leaves.

Leaders Eat Last  The philosophy of servant leadership for your volunteer program.

As a volunteer manager, your work is to create an environment where people can perform at their very best. When all the individuals are working together at their peak performance is when teams and organizations move from good to great. Servant leadership provides a framework for how volunteer leaders can seek to maximize the volunteers impact on their organization’s mission.
